The Truck was a 2 1/2 ton cargo 6x6 manufactured by Kaiser in 1956 with the exhaust pipe between the rear duels. A good friend that was a mechanic turned up the injector pump and put a seal back on it to pass inspections. On the flats it could do 70 mph loaded and down those long downhills it topped out at 110 mph. That's pretty fast and scary so I only did that when there was very little to no traffic on the Bahn. With a stereo locked in the glovebox and speakers behind the headrest, heater hose in the pantleg of the coveralls the cold winter weather was no problem. If you wanted a hot lunch you just put the c-ration in the heater box and the beverages would stay cold under the driver seat. To stay awake the window would be rolled down 4-5 inches and of course cigarettes by the pack and away you go. Lots of stories but the best one was the drag race at Gibbs Kaserne right by the M.P. station. Carl and I and Jagermeister wasn't a wise thing to do, but it got-er-did. Our Master Sgt. used that got-er-did slang. The day I left my good friend Mug drove it to the PDO yard.
